In 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, the continental United States was joined by completion of a long ribbon of rails from Omaha, Nebraska, to Sacramento, California. This painting, depicting representative Chinese laborers of the Central Pacific Railroad and the Irish/German laborers of the Union Pacific Railroad, hangs in the National Park Service's Golden Spike National Historic Site at Promontory Summit, Utah. |
