Stephen Hales

Father, Stone Cutter, Pioneer

26" x 40" Oil

Stephen Hales, great-great-grandfather of the artist, was a finish stone carver on the Mormon Salt Lake Temple. In this historically and technically accurate painting, he is shown carving the "clasped hands" symbolic stone for the temple facade. The girl represents an allegory of family members who have written histories of the craftsman and his family.
